Honey Glazed Ham

Honey Glazed Ham

Ingredients

  • 8-10 pound / 4-5 kg fully cooked ham
  • 1 cup / 220 g packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup / 170 g honey
  • 2 Tbsp / 30 g Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup / 113 g butter
  • 4 grated garlic cloves
  • a pinch of ground cloves
  • a pinch of ground cinnamon
  • salt
  • black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 F / 165 C.
  2. Using a sharp knife, score the ham in a diamond-shaped pattern, making shallow cuts of about 1/4" / 0.65 cm.
  3. Place the ham on a baking tray lined with baking paper, and add 1/2 cup / 125 ml water to the tray. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for about 2 hours.
  4. While the ham is baking, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat until it starts to brown. Then add brown sugar, honey, mustard, and cloves, and stir well until the sugar has dissolved.
  5. Reduce heat to low and add the garlic and ground cinnamon. Cook for 2 minutes, and remove from the heat when it starts to simmer.
  6. After the 2 hours pass, remove the ham from the oven and increase oven temperature to 410 F / 210 C. Brush the ham with half of the glaze, making sure to brush in between the cuts as well. Bake for 15 minutes, then add the rest of the glaze. Bake for another 15 minutes. Let the ham rest for about 15 minutes before serving. You can take all the juices and remaining glaze left in the baking tray, mix them well and serve them as an accompanying sauce.
